This famous cafe was opened at the start of the 1950's, and it was very popular in Amsterdam. Its peak period was between the 1960's and 1970's. It was definitely "the place to be". You could find all kinds of people here. Journalists, politicians, students, writers, artists and business men who, would all enjoy each other's company with a beer or jenever in their hands. It was named after Könings beer, a German beer which was served the first years. Up until 2007, the cafe was owned by the Loeffen family. They were originally from Limburg, so back in the years the Koningshut was known as the Limburg Embassy. Naturally any visitor to Amsterdam who came from that area would stop by.As we know times can change, and after a quiet spell, the Koningshut was taken over by its neighbouring "Haesje Claes". This involved a huge renovation to turn it into the newly formed cafe that it is today. Its interior has a unique combination of lead glass, leather and wood and is decorated with clay tankards of Brand beer which have been collected over the years. There's a variety of seven different beers on tap ranging from local to regional, and on top of this, many other famous bottled brands. The traditional Dutch liqueur and jenever made by (Van Wees) can be found here in a large assortment of tastes and flavours, and in addition to these, the digestives such as eau de vie's from distillery De Betuwe van Stokerij Lubberhuizen en Raaff. It is also possible to order from Haesje Claes's à la carte menu and impressive wine list. The Koningshut is the perfect place where after work drinks are enjoyed between colleagues and friends. Birthday celebrations are also known to take place here, and if people would like to have a get together drink before or after dining at Haesje Claes, this can be arranged.

Any questions or reservations can be made and answered via telephone or e-mail, where we can discuss the possibilities to everyone's satisfaction.
